Happy Thursday! I have had so many new bridal appointments in the last few weeks and I’m so excited about my 2018 weddings! One question that keeps coming up is, “Can you describe your photography style?”
Talk about loaded question. Asking an artist what their “style” is can be so difficult to put into words! Its like asking what is your personality type or describe yourself. I can think of a lot of descriptive words but putting it all together to describe my style can be difficult! So I’m going to just use my work and those adjectives to help! (having a third grader has reminded me so much about parts of speech!)
Genuine Capture
I like to be as unobtrusive as I can. The beauty to me of this type of art is that it is a still of a moment and I don’t typically like to have those moments be full of unnatural elements such as extra lighting or props or crazy editing. A genuine natural capture that documents that moment as a memory is my favorite part of my work.
Romantic Details
Often times it is the little parts of a love story that really instill the memory. The detail of the way a hair fell, or the way a hand brushed against a cheek. Those sweet romantic elements are another huge part of my style. To capture these moments you will often see me clicking even seemingly after the “moment” is over because this is where I find the real details.
Gentle Posing
As much as I like to just capture the moment I also know that so much of the beauty in my style encompasses me helping my clients to be able to be confident in front of my camera. I do this by being an expert at reading people and knowing how to help them into some gentle poses that allow them to be natural and the most becoming version of themselves. Often times I will help my clients with an initial pose and then give them small directions on how to get several gorgeous shots out of the same interaction.
I think those are my “style” Anyone have a simple way to say that?!?! I feel like my style is just part of ME as I’m sure most creatives would feel. This work is just an outpouring of my heart and I feel so lucky to get to have a job that is part of me.
